Building E7

  • winepress house, granary and wine cellar of Václav Bíza from Vrbice

Characteristics

The building, which is almost 50 years younger that the E 10, is based on the same constructional traditions and principles. The hayloft, the granary and the winepress room connected with the underground wine cellar, are housed under one roof.

History

The exact date of the construction is not known. The building is not recorded on the cadastral map from 1876. It was drawn in red colour only additionally, when the documents for the new map in 1897 were put together. The building thus may have come into being between the above time horizons.

The construction of the large building probably relates to Václav Sedláček, owner of the farmstead No. 20 in Vrbice. He is entered as the first owner in the land register but only in 1909 as he sold the farmstead to Matěj Bíza from the house No. 9 in Vrbice. Both aforementioned owners belonged to the wealthy class of country farmers possessing large farms with plenty of cattle, fields and vineyards. In 1910, Matěj Bíza had a pair of horses, 2 foals, 2 cows, 3 heifers, 3 sows, 10 suckling pigs, 5 pigs, 2 goats, 15 hens, 2 gooses, 1 duck and 4 other pieces of poultry. The large and prosperous farm had a groom, 21-year-old Antonín Chramosta. The aforementioned fact, that a large building accommodating a winepress room with a granary, could exist only in addition to a not-less-large farm with fi elds and vineyards, can be confirmed again.

In 1928, the farmstead is handed over to the oldest son Václav Bíza. On behalf of the old farmers, Matěj and František Bíza, the annuity of 50 kg wheat, 50 kg rye and 50 kg barley and the free-of-charge use of the winepress room with the cellar were registered. In the following year, the young farmer had to contract a debt at the Savings Bank of Cyril and Methodius in Brno, probably to pay the shares of his brothers and sisters, maybe the debts after the old farmer. In the same year, Matěj Bíza was deprived of legal capacity because of prodigality and drinking.
