Area of moravské Kopanice

Moravské Kopanice is a unique ethnographic area situated at the Moravian and Slovakian frontier, near Starý Hrozenkov. The village of Starý Hrozenkov was a natural historical and administrative centre of the former settlements - the contemporary independent villages of Vyškovec, Vápenice and Žítková. As compared with the surrounding areas, Moravské Kopanice is a quite young settled territory whose age has not exceeded three centuries yet. Its remoteness and social isolation, however, have caused very old cultural aspects to be preserved in Kopanice, whose origin must be found in the regions from which the local population came.
