Area of Horňácko

The Horňácko ethnographic area is one of the most peculiar and picturesque Moravian regions. It is located on the Moravian-Slovak border, in the foothills of the White Carpathians. The region includes the villages of Hrubá and Malá Vrbka, Javorník, Kuželov, Lipov, Louka, Nová Lhota, Vápenky and Suchov. The small town of Velká nad Veličkou is a natural centre of the region. The name Horňácko has been used as late as since the end of the 19th century. The Horňácko region was settled only gradually, as the settlers were coming from the lowlands to the hilly region of the White Carpathians.
